Sheena McCulloch was looking to start a better life for her and her young daughter when she saw an Eastern College commercial on TV. She began to research and found that she could take the Makeup Artistry and Design diploma program and begin a career that she would enjoy. “I just kept seeing the commercial, it sounded really easy,” she said. “The half-days appealed to me, being a single mother, it was good and then job placement too.”

It pays to make an informed decision, especially regarding vital matters such as your career. People can pursue their passion for art, design, beauty, or cosmetics by becoming makeup artists.

Sheena was working hard to juggle life and school when she received horrible news right before the Christmas holidays. Her house had caught fire and burned completely to the ground. “I had an exam the next day, it was Christmas and I was trying to shop for my daughter, it was so overwhelming,” said Sheena. “But Eastern College rallied together and raised money for us and gave us supplies. They even got me a new makeup kit for my program.”

It was the worst time in her life, but Sheena felt grateful for all of the support given to her. “Everything I missed, they let me catch up,” she said. “The counselling at the school was the only thing that got me through it all.”

Since then, Sheena has graduated from the Makeup and Artistry program at Eastern College and with honours. After help from her instructor, she gained employment working for the renowned Clarins Pure Makeup brand as a mobile makeup artist, as well as for MOZUS Productions working on film sets doing makeup for actors and actresses.

Sheena believes that she owes her success to Eastern College because when she was was going through a hard time, the staff stepped in to make sure she found her way. “I really struggled a lot at first but everything came together when the school saw I was struggling and they found a solution for me to succeed,” she said.

“Life for me now is amazing, my daughter is safe and happy, and everything is coming together. It is even better than I thought it was going to be.”
