What Does a Pharmacy Technician Do?
A pharmacy technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare system, assisting pharmacists and ensuring the smooth operation of the pharmacy. You will gain knowledge relevant to the technical and clerical aspects of the pharmacy profession including inventory maintenance, record keeping, pharmacy equipment, device demonstration, mathematical skills related to pharmacy, compounding, and prescription preparation in both hospital and community pharmacies.

The International Graduates in Demand stream of Nova Scotia’s Provincial Nominee Program is expanding it's stream to include pharmacy technician. Pharmacy technician is a high demand program. Graduates of the program can apply for a work permit and permanent residency in Canada before gaining work experience.
Program Information
Guided by a licensed pharmacist, a pharmacy technician performs tasks related to pharmacy operations, with the goal of improving patient health through the accurate dispensing of prescriptions. Our classrooms simulate real-world pharmacy settings, including relevant equipment. Our program has been granted accreditation status by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs for a five year term – July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027 (Halifax).
Program Requirements
To enroll in the Pharmacy Technician program, candidates must have completed Grade 12 or its equivalent, which includes academic-level courses in Math, English, and/or French, Chemistry, and Biology, typically at the grade 11 and/or 12 level. Furthermore, the following requirements are also mandatory for program admission: a comprehensive standardized health form along with documentation of your immunization records, a Clear Conduct Certificate and language proficiency requirements set forth by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA).
